There is nothing more frustrating than a peaceful sleeper waking up suddenly because of a wet diaper. If you find your baby is regularly leaking at night, but not during the day, here are a few things to consider.
Why Leaks Happen at Night
Often, night leaks are related to increased duration of wear or changes in positioning during sleep. If you find your baby is frequently waking up, it might be that the diaper isn't keeping up with their output or movement.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Size and Fit: If your baby is consistently leaking, it might be time to size up, especially for the night shift. A slightly larger diaper can hold more absorbent material.
- Switch to Pants: As babies become more mobile, tape-style diapers can shift more easily. Transitioning to "pant-style" diapers can provide a more secure fit that moves with your baby, significantly reducing the chances of side or waist leaks.
- Check the Routine: If changing your baby wakes them up completely, look for diapers that prioritize high-absorption capacity so you can get through the night without a change if the skin is dry. If you must change, try to keep the lights low and minimize interaction to help them drift back off to sleep quickly.

Note: Every baby's anatomy is different, so don't be afraid to try a few different brands to see which fits your little one's shape best.
