If your baby has been sleeping well and suddenly starts waking up frequently or refusing naps, you aren’t alone. Many parents experience these 'sleep blips' around the 8 to 11-month mark. When your baby wakes frequently in the middle of the night—especially if they seem restless but not fully awake—it can be incredibly draining.
While it is tempting to try adding heavier evening meals, sleep disruptions at this age are often developmental. Your baby might be learning new skills like crawling or standing, which can keep their brain buzzing even when they are tired. Instead of focusing solely on diet, check the environment: is the room temperature comfortable? Are they getting enough physical activity during the day?
Establish a consistent, calming bedtime routine that cues your baby that it is time to wind down. If the disruption persists, try to stay calm and minimize stimulation during night wakings. Remember, this is often just a phase. Your little one’s sleep patterns will likely stabilize again soon. If you are struggling with your own fatigue, prioritize your rest during the day whenever possible, and feel free to reach out to your pediatrician if you feel the night wakings are causing your baby distress.
