If you are a new parent, you might find yourself obsessing over your baby’s diaper habits. It is completely normal to feel anxious if your newborn goes a few days without a bowel movement.
For exclusively breastfed babies, it is quite common to go several days—even up to a week or more—without a dirty diaper. This often happens because breastmilk is so efficiently digested that there is very little waste left over to pass. As long as your baby is happy, active, and meeting their wet diaper milestones, there is often no cause for alarm.

If you want to help your baby feel a bit more comfortable, you can try:
- Tummy Massage: Gentle, clockwise rubs on the belly can help digestion.
- Bicycle Kicks: Lay your baby on their back and gently move their legs in a bicycling motion to help move gas and stool.
- Tummy Time: Encouraging supervised tummy time helps strengthen their core and can aid in digestion.
Every baby is different—some may poop eight times in one day, while others prefer to wait until the end of the week. If you notice signs of extreme discomfort, a hard/distended belly, or if your "mom-brain" simply needs reassurance, never hesitate to check in with your pediatrician. They are there to help you navigate these normal (but stressful!) developmental phases.
