How is CMPA medically diagnosed?
CMPA is often diagnosed clinically through the observation of specific symptoms—most notably blood in the stool, eczema, and digestive distress—that improve when dairy is eliminated. While some pediatricians may recommend blood tests like Serum Specific IgE (Immunocap) to determine if the allergy is IgE-mediated (usually causing rapid, severe reactions like hives or swelling) or non-IgE-mediated (usually resulting in delayed digestive symptoms), these tests are not always conclusive for non-IgE types. A trial elimination diet under medical supervision is typically the gold standard for confirmation.
