FAQ HealthMilestones 0-3 months

Is it normal for a 1-month-old to suddenly have more frequent bowel movements?

It is common for the frequency of a newborn's stools to change. While 1-2 stools a day is a common pattern for many infants, 4-5 movements in a day can also be perfectly normal as their digestive system matures and they go through growth spurts. However, if your baby is feeding well and remains active, it is usually not a cause for alarm. Keep monitoring for signs of dehydration, and if the stool frequency is accompanied by other symptoms like persistent crying or a fever, it is always best to check with your pediatrician.
