Is it normal for a one-year-old to have a change in stool frequency and consistency when starting solids?

Yes, it is common to see significant changes in stool color, frequency, and consistency once a baby transitions to solids. As they begin to experiment with various foods—like beetroot, which can turn stool a dark, blackish-purple—the diaper output becomes more varied and unpredictable. Over time, as your baby settles into a routine and their water intake increases, these movements will become more consistent.
