What should I do if my baby's ear piercing becomes infected?

If an ear piercing becomes red, inflamed, or develops pus, keep the area clean by gently wiping it with a sterile saline solution several times a day. Applying an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment, such as Bacitracin, once a day for up to a week can help clear up the infection. If the infection persists, is accompanied by a fever, or if the baby seems to be in significant pain, consult your pediatrician immediately.
