When is it appropriate to use a glycerine suppository for a baby's constipation?
Glycerine suppositories should generally be avoided unless specifically recommended by your pediatrician and the baby is in clear, physical distress. For exclusively breastfed babies, it is medically normal to go many days—sometimes up to a week or more—without a bowel movement. If the baby is not in pain, frequent intervention is discouraged because it can interfere with the baby's natural ability to learn how to pass stool independently.
