When is it safe to start stepping out with my newborn?

There is no set rule, but many parents feel more comfortable waiting until after the baby's first vaccinations. Start with short, nearby outings to familiar places like family homes or cafes to build your confidence. Using a well-organized diaper bag, a comfortable baby carrier or car seat, and nursing covers can make outings much easier. Remember that it is okay if you need to feed or soothe the baby in the car or a quiet corner of a restaurant; the benefits of getting fresh air and easing postpartum isolation are well worth it.
