When is the right time to start potty training?

There is a wide spectrum of approaches, ranging from Elimination Communication (EC) starting in infancy to waiting until a child shows signs of readiness, often around 18 months or older. While some parents find success with early cue-based methods, many pediatricians recommend waiting until the child is physically and cognitively ready, as they are then better able to control their bladder and bowel movements. It is important to focus on the "how" rather than just the "when," ensuring the process remains a positive experience that supports a child's growing sense of autonomy rather than causing unnecessary stress or pelvic floor strain.
