Au pair experience - good or bad?
gentle-goldfinch · 4/8/2026
Considering an au pair for next year (1 year old). Don't really know anyone who's had one. What's the reality?

Brilliant if you have space. Like having a younger sibling who helps out. The cultural exchange element is special.
It's a relationship not a transaction. Goes well if you treat them like family, less well if you treat them like staff.
AuPairWorld and Energy Au Pair are decent platforms.
Mixed bag. We had 2 great ones and 1 disaster. Pick carefully via reputable agency.
Limit hours to legal max (25-30/week) and respect days off. Otherwise burnout fast.
