Baby gagging on solids - terrifying or normal?
bubbly-axolotl · 4/12/2026
Started BLW at 6 months and every meal involves dramatic gagging. I know intellectually it's how they learn to manage food but I'm a mess. When does it stop?

Took a paediatric first aid course and it transformed how I feel about it. Highly recommend.
Gagging is the safety mechanism working - choking is silent. Learn the difference and you'll feel better.
Settled around 8 months for us. They get genuinely good at it surprisingly fast.
Mine still gags occasionally at 14 months. Totally normal apparently.
