White noise - how loud is too loud?

Hear conflicting things. AAP says under 50dB. Hatch Rest can go way higher. Currently running at maybe 70dB across the room. Damaging hearing?

The 50dB rec is measured at the baby's ear, not at the machine. Set machine across the room and you'll easily be under.

We use Lectrofan, runs at moderate volume - never had a check raise concerns at audiology.

Phone decibel meter app - check at the crib. Should be under 65dB sustained.

The risk is sustained exposure at very high levels. Reasonable use is fine.
