First words count - does babble count?

10 months, says 'mama' and 'dada' all day but not at us specifically. Does this count? When does babble become a 'word'?

Reading and naming objects all day helps. 'That's a ball. Ball! Ball!'

Usually clicks around 11-12mo. The babble becomes meaningful.

A word is when they consistently use the same sound for the same thing/person. Not yet for you, but soon!

Don't stress the exact moment - the babble is the foundation for everything.
