Recognize thumb sucking as a self soothing cue

If your baby is sucking their thumb, observe when they do it—often it is a helpful cue that they are feeling sleepy or overstimulated. As long as they are not doing it out of hunger, this is a normal, healthy self-soothing milestone that helps them settle independently.
