A Parent’s Guide to Visiting Bannerghatta Biological Park

Planning a trip to Bannerghatta with young children is a fantastic way to spend a day outdoors, but it requires a bit of logistical planning to keep everyone happy. Whether you are aiming for the safari, the butterfly park, or the zoo, here is how to make the day run smoothly.

Timing is Everything

Most families find that 3 to 4 hours is the "sweet spot" for a visit. To avoid the peak heat and crowds, aim to arrive early (around 10:00 AM). If you are traveling with a very young infant (under 1 year), some parents suggest sticking to just the zoo or the butterfly park, as the safari roads can be bumpy and long for a small baby.

Logistics and Food

  • No Single-Use Plastic: This is a strict rule at the park. Do not bring plastic bags or disposable wrappers. Instead, pack your snacks and lunch in reusable, non-plastic containers and bring reusable water bottles.
  • Food for the Family: While there is a restaurant inside the zoo offering decent variety (such as biryani, noodles, and sandwiches), packing a homemade picnic is a great way to ensure your toddlers have familiar, healthy options. Just ensure it is all packed in appropriate containers.
  • Getting Around: Navigating with little ones can be tiring. A stroller is recommended for the zoo area, though a baby carrier is often more efficient if you plan to use the BOV (Battery Operated Vehicle) or navigate crowds.
  • Booking: If you want a more efficient experience, booking a private jeep for the safari is often preferred over the bus. It’s shorter and allows you more control over your pace.

Pro-Tip: If your children are very young, don't feel the need to do all three attractions (Safari, Zoo, and Butterfly Park) in one go. You can easily spend your entire time at just one or two, ensuring your kids stay well-rested and happy rather than exhausted and cranky.
