
Starting solids is an exciting milestone, but it’s completely normal if your baby doesn’t dive in with enthusiasm right away. If your little one is only taking a teaspoon or less of their first meals, don’t stress—this is standard behavior.
When babies first transition from breast milk or formula, they are still learning how to move food around in their mouths. Instead of worrying about volume, focus on the experience. If your baby seems disinterested, try offering different textures. Some babies prefer soft, finger-friendly pieces like steamed sweet potato, carrots, or pumpkin, which they can hold and gum themselves, rather than smooth purees.

Remember, breast milk and formula remain their primary source of nutrition and hydration at this stage. If they reject a meal, there is no need to panic or force the issue. Simply try again later or at the next scheduled feed. Consistency is key, but so is keeping mealtime stress-free. If you find yourself feeling anxious, remember that your baby can sense that energy. Keep it light, offer small quantities, and trust that your baby will increase their intake as they become more comfortable with the new world of food.
