Introducing a bottle to an exclusively breastfed baby is a big milestone! It is completely normal to feel a little nervous about potential nipple confusion or flow preference.
If you are worried about the flow being too fast, start with a slow-flow or 'newborn' teat (often labeled as 0+ months). This mimics the effort required at the breast, making the transition feel more natural for your baby.

Here are a few tips for a successful first try:
- Don't wait for extreme hunger: Try offering the bottle when your baby is calm and happy, rather than when they are already upset and starving.
- Pace the feed: You don't have to be the one to give the first bottle. Sometimes babies are less tempted to look for 'the real thing' if a partner or family member offers the bottle while you are out of the room.
- Temperature matters: Some babies are picky about the temperature of the milk. Experiment slightly to see what your baby prefers.
- Keep it positive: If they reject it, don't force it. Take a break and try again another day. It can sometimes take a few attempts for a baby to get used to the feel of a bottle teat.

Be patient with yourself and your baby; you are both learning a new skill together!
