How can I manage gas and colic in my newborn?

Gas is common in newborns due to a maturing digestive system. Help relieve discomfort by burping frequently (even mid-feed), engaging in 'bicycle' leg exercises, and providing tummy time against your thigh. Applying a natural hing (asafoetida) roll-on or paste around the navel is a traditional remedy many parents find effective for daily relief. If the gas and fussiness seem severe, consult your pediatrician, who may suggest safe anti-colic drops to help your baby settle.
