How do I manage the pain of a milk bleb or clogged duct?

A milk bleb can be painful, but many mothers find relief by applying a warm compress to the area immediately before a feed or pumping session to help open the duct. Applying nipcare ointment between sessions can also keep the skin soft and prevent further irritation. If the pain is accompanied by fever, chills, or persistent body aches, consult your doctor or a lactation consultant, as these may be signs of mastitis which require medical attention. Some mothers also find that oral sunflower lecithin supplements help make milk flow easier and prevent recurrent clogs.
