Is it safe to breastfeed while lying down when my baby is a newborn?

While side-lying feeding is a common position, it is generally recommended to feed in an upright position for newborns to help their immature digestive systems and ensure a proper latch. If you are extremely exhausted, the safest approach is to ensure you have support—such as a partner or family member in the room to help with burping or soothing—so you can avoid dozing off while feeding. If you must feed at night, try sitting up in a safe, supported position, and prioritize short, frequent naps during the day to manage your fatigue.
