Managing Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

If your child develops fever and a rash consistent with HFMD, contact your pediatrician for an accurate diagnosis and pain management options. To soothe mouth ulcers, offer soft, cool foods like yogurt, fruit purees, or frozen juice popsicles, and ask your doctor about prescribed oral gels if the pain is severe. Keep the child home to prevent spreading the infection to other children or elderly family members, and rest assured that it typically resolves on its own within a week.
