Should I unlatch my baby once they fall asleep while nursing?
Many babies use the breast as a comfort object or a way to drift into sleep. Once your baby enters a deep sleep—often characterized by very slow, rhythmic, non-nutritive sucking or long pauses—it is perfectly acceptable to gently unlatch them. While some parents choose to let their baby stay on for 15-20 minutes, you do not need to wait for them to detach naturally if you are ready to move on.
