What should I do if my baby has persistent cradle cap flakes?

If mild baby shampoos haven't cleared up cradle cap, many parents find success by applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) to the scalp about an hour before bath time to help soften the flakes. During the bath, gently massage the scalp with a soft baby brush or comb to loosen the scales before washing with a mild baby shampoo. If the flaking is persistent or does not improve, consult your pediatrician, who may suggest specialized treatments.
