Why does my toddler cry during diaper changes and cleaning?

It is not uncommon for toddlers to protest during cleaning, and the cause can vary. It may be a reaction to the sensation of the cleaning method—running water can feel shocking or cold, for example. Try using lukewarm water from a mug or a soft cotton pad with coconut oil instead of harsh wipes or direct running water. Also, ensure the person cleaning is not rubbing the skin too firmly, which can be uncomfortable. If the behavior persists, it is worth checking for any underlying rashes or sensitivity.
