FAQ Feeding 6-12 months

How can I help my 6-month-old adjust to taking a bottle?

It is very common for breastfed babies to resist the bottle when you return to work. To help, have a caregiver other than the breastfeeding parent offer the bottle while you remain completely out of sight. Experiment with different bottle nipples and flow rates, or try introducing expressed milk via a sipper cup or spoon if the baby continues to refuse. Most importantly, try to stay calm, as babies can sense your stress; persistence is key, but if they still resist, many pediatricians recommend replacing missed feeds with solids if the baby is developmentally ready.
