How can I safely treat head lice in a one-year-old?

When treating head lice in children as young as one year, it is important to be cautious with over-the-counter chemical treatments, as many are not recommended for infants and toddlers. A safe, gentle first step is to coat the hair thoroughly with coconut oil or another gentle hair oil to help immobilize the lice. Once the hair is saturated, use a fine-toothed lice comb to meticulously remove the lice and nits. Always consult your pediatrician before using any medicated shampoos or formulas on a child this young.
