How do I deal with a lice infestation in a young child?

Lice infestations are stressful but manageable with the right tools. Use an anti-lice shampoo (such as those containing permethrin, as advised by your doctor) and follow the instructions carefully regarding leave-on time. The most effective way to remove nits (eggs) is by using a fine-toothed steel lice comb; manually picking out eggs or pressing them against the comb with your fingernail helps ensure they are removed, as they often stick firmly to the hair shaft.
