How can I soothe a baby with nighttime coughing?
Nighttime coughing is often exacerbated by dry air, so using a humidifier in the nursery is highly recommended. To help loosen mucus, sit with your baby in a small bathroom with the shower running hot to create steam for 10–15 minutes before bedtime. If congestion is severe, a saline nebulization (using a 3% saline solution) can also be very effective; always consult your pediatrician before starting nebulization treatments.
