FAQ Health 0-3 months

Is it normal for a 1-month-old to have nasal congestion at night?

Yes, many newborns experience nighttime nasal congestion because their nasal passages are very narrow and their respiratory systems are still developing. Since they are often fine during the day, this is usually just environmental or due to the transition to lying flat. You can help comfort them by keeping the room air moist with a humidifier and using saline nasal drops as recommended by your pediatrician to loosen any mucus before feeds.
